The English Department delivers the English Curriculum as a compulsory subject to every student at TMGC from Year 9 to Year 13.

 

  • In the Junior school, Year 9 and Year 10 students are assessed on arrival to the school and are given a foundation course of English which is either supported or extended by the Whakapiki Matauranga Department.
  • In the Senior school, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 students study for their NCEA in either Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
  • The Department has an almost 100% pass rate for Literacy in NCEA Level 1.

ICT - Information and Communication Technology

ICT is compulsory from Year 9 through to Year 12, with the aim of the students having a recognised base level understanding of ICT in the form of a National Certificate in Computing (Level 2).

The courses offer a wide range of ICT subject material which is ever increasing in  technology advances. The skills learnt will enhance the ability to both gain employment in any field they choose and be safe while living in a world of ever increasing information.

Te Reo Maori
 

The Māori Department delivers the Te reo Māori Curriculum as a compulsory subject at TMGC from Year 9 to Year 13.

The Junior School

  • Year 9 & Year 10 students are assessed on arrival.
  • Rūmaki classes are offered in the Junior School only.
  • NCEA Level 1 Te reo Māori is offered to the Year 10 Rūmaki Class.

The Senior School

  • Year 11 to Year 13 students are given the opportunity to study for their NCEA Levels 1  to 4.
  • Year 11 to Year 13 students are required to study NCEA Level 1 to Level 4 Māori Performing Arts.

Visual Arts
 

The Visual Arts Department delivers the Visual Arts Curriculum as a compulsory subject to Year 9 & Year 10 students.  Visual Arts is a option at NCEA Level 1, Level 2 & Level 3.

  • In the Junior school, Year 9 & Year 10 students are exposed to a variety of a processes such as painting, sculpuure, collage and drawing.  Students explore elements and principles to prepare them for Senior Visual Arts and to gain skills that useful in other subjects.
  • In the Senior school, Year 11, Year 12 & Year 13 students study for their NCEA in either Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.

Religious Education
 

Religious Education is a compulsory subject in years 9 and 10.

 

  • Year 9 students complete an in-depth programme from the Old Testament.
  • Year 10 students complete an in-depth programme from the New Testament.
  • All year 9 and year 10 students are required to commit to the memory the six karakia which are used daily in the kura.
